Conventions
Telamon Project conventions are as follows:
- [ ] Square brackets enclose parts of the text once written on the stone but now either totally illegible (where the surface is worn), or lost because the stone is broken away.
- () Round brackets enclose letters added by the editor to complete an abbreviated word.
- <>
Angled brackets enclose:
1) letters believed to have been accidentally omitted by the engraver;
2) correct letters inserted by the editor to substitute letters wrongly inscribed or left incomplete on the stone. - {} Hooked brackets enclose letters considered not to have been intended to be written, but written by error, e.g. mistakenly repeated letters.
- Pale colour indicates partially preserved letters with doubtful reading.
- Dotted underlining indicates letters deliberately erased in ancient times.
- v or vacat indicates space intentionally left blank by the engraver.
- Underlining indicates letters read by earlier editors or seen in earlier copies/photographs, but now missing on the stone.
Measurements are all in metres; the measurements of the stones have been given in the order height × width × depth.
